The Plot:
This cuvée, "L’estimée,” comes from five different plots spread across the Chassagne-Montrachet
appellation. The vines face southeast and are situated between 225 and
230 meters in altitude. The soils are deep, clay-rich, and stony.
The
name of this cuvée originates from the history of the village of
Chassagne and one of its oldest families: the Paquelins. There have been
Paquelins living in the village since the 15th century, but as the
daughters married into other families, the current descendants bear
different surnames, including Coffinet (from 1866) and Gagnard (from
1925). The branch founded by Jean-Noël Gagnard became the Lestimé family
in 1994, hence the creation of L’Estimée—a nod to the most recent branch of the family. L’Estimée can also be translated as "the respected lady” in French.
This cuvée reflects the estate’s ambition to highlight the potential of red wines from Chassagne-Montrachet.
The Wine:
The robe displays a beautiful, brilliant garnet color with Burgundy-red highlights.
The
nose is expressive and fruity, offering aromas of morello cherry,
strawberry, raspberry, and a hint of plum—all perceived as very ripe.
Floral notes, such as lavender, complete the bouquet.
On
the palate, the wine is well-balanced and fruit-forward, with good
structure and finesse thanks to polished, delicate tannins. A lively
acidity adds complexity to the wine. The flavors on the palate are
focused on red fruits and leather, with a long, sustained finish.
Cellaring Advice:
It can be enjoyed starting in 3 years.
